Rocky Boots to race with Grubnic, Kalitta Motorsports in 2011

Rocky, a manufacturer of premium outdoor, work, duty, military, Western, and casual footwear and apparel, has announced that its Rocky brand will return as a primary and associate sponsor of Kalitta Motorsports for the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series season. Fan favorite Dave Grubnic will drive the Rocky Boots Top Fuel dragster.

Rocky Boots will serve as the primary sponsor on the car at three events in 2011:

• O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Pennzoil, Houston, April 29-May 1
• Fram-Autolite NHRA Nationals, Sonoma, July 29-31
• O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals, Charlotte, Sept. 15-18

“We are extremely excited to be teaming up with Kalitta Motorsports again and to have David Grubnic take the reins of the Rocky dragster,” Steve Graham, Rocky Brands Inc. marketing manager. “Graphic designer Seann Anderson did a great job with the artwork to make the dragster look even faster than last year.”

Said Anderson, “My goal was to infuse the energy and excitement that Rocky customers experience while in our products onto David Grubnic’s Rocky Top Fuel dragster. The Rocky DNA is fully ingrained in the look of the dragster, with some traditional hot rod influence to top off a visually stellar piece. It’s been a privilege to work with Kalitta Motorsports on this project, and I look forward to seeing ‘Grubby’ in the winner’s circle during the 2011 season!”

Grubnic, a 48-year old native of Brisbane, Australia, began his Top Fuel career in the United States in 1995. He was hired by Kalitta Motorsports in 2004. He has finished in the top 10 in Full Throttle championship points in five of the last seven seasons. He has won two NHRA national events, and he became the first non-native North American to win an NHRA Top Fuel event in Topeka in 2005.

“I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be representing Rocky and driving such a great race car,” said Grubnic. “The Rocky dragster looks amazing, and we’re going to try to make it run as good as it looks.”

Team owner and drag racing legend Connie “the Bounty Hunter” Kalitta will serve as crew chief on the Rocky Boots Top Fuel dragster with help from assistant crew chief James Riola.

Grubnic will be putting the Rocky Boots dragster through its paces on the racetrack beginning next week as he and the rest of Kalitta Motorsports take part in a weeklong closed and private test session in West Palm Beach, Fla., Jan. 31-Feb. 5.

Rocky Boots is the official footwear of Kalitta Motorsports and is an associate sponsor on the DHL Funny Car driven by Jeff Arend and the Doug Kalitta-driven Kalitta Air Top Fuel dragster for Kalitta Motorsports.
