About the Ford Fiesta Championship
The UK Ford Fiesta Championship started in 1997 as a Club Championship, having formerly been a Ford manufacturer series in the T.O.C.A. package of racing. The first year passed with good average grids being seen, and successive seasons seeing the numbers grow. The Ford Fiesta Championship incorporates four models of Fiesta, two formerly seen in manufacturer championships. The cars run on slick Dunlop control tires. The 2011 Ford Fiesta Championship was supported by Competition Car Insurance and Dunlop and featured four classes of Ford Fiesta racecars.
Class A consists of the mid-90s Mk3 Fiesta Si’s, but with standard 1800cc 130ps Zetec engines out of the Fiesta RS1800 or Escort GTi.
Class B cars use a Mk5 Fiesta Zetec-S body shell with a smaller 1400cc blacktop Zetec power plant.
Class C will be for the brand new Fiesta ST, which will run in group N style with the car being a near showroom class.
New in 2011 was the addition of the Ford Fiesta Zetec S. This brilliantly engineered Fiesta boasts enhanced strength and a lighter body shell direct from the manufacturer.
The Ford Fiesta Championship gives very good value for money, due to the cheap cost of the body shells and engines and the fact that performance modifications are not permitted. The average season budget would be somewhere between £4000 and £5000, and a championship-winning car Si or Zetec can be purchased for under £5000.
Also new for 2012 will be the Fiesta Junior Championship which will see 14 – 16 year olds racing the Fiesta ST in their own dedicated racing on the same billing as the senior championship. See www.fiestajunior.ms
