WRC 2012 Sweden Review: Parts 1-4 of four.

The Ouninpohja stage, one of the most famous in the World Rally Championship, will return to Rally Finland this year. Organizers of the Aug. 2-4 rally have revealed the route for this year’s event, which retains its Thursday-Saturday format. After a successful trial last year, the opening day of the event will be run around Lahti, south of the event’s base in Jyvaskyla. The second day, which will be run on the roads out toward Keuruu, brings the return of another couple of favorite stages in the shape of Mokkipera and Palsankyla. The final day takes the cars back down the E63 toward Jamsa and Ouninpohja. Ouninpohja is included twice at its classic 20-mile length – with the second run offering bonus points as it is the event’s powerstage. The last time Ouninpohja ran to its full length was 2004. Citroen driver Mikko Hirvonen fell a step short on the Rally Sweden podium. He finished second to last year’s Ford teammate Jari-Matti Latvala who won the event and led a Ford assault with four Fiestas in the top five. Hirvonen and another Citroen driver, Nasser Al-Attiyah, talked about the weekend when it was over.

Team principal Joe Foster talks about new promotions for 2012. The team will once again field two Mazda RX-8s with Foster and Patrick Dempsey driving the No. 40. Charles Espenlaub and Charlie Putman, who won the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS Driver Championship in 2010, will co-drive the No. 41.

Scion unveiled its Scion Racing/GReddy FR-S race car during a press conference at the 2012 North American International Auto Show. The FR-S will be competing in the 2012 Formula DRIFT series with veteran driver Ken Gushi behind the wheel. The 600- horsepower Scion FR-S race car is the result of a collaboration between Scion Racing and GReddy, a performance-products company that has been involved with Toyota and racing for over twenty years. The race car is inspired by the 2013 Scion FR-S, a compact rear-wheel-drive sports car that will go on sale in the spring of 2012. The high-performance coupe is the fifth model to join the Scion family.

Mach7 Motorsports waltzed into the 2011 Detroit Auto Show with a killer new machine that was poised to further represent America in the supercar war of the worlds. Turns out, that was just a prototype and they’re back in Detroit again to reveal their polished Falcon F7. The new Falcon F7 supercar will go on sale at a starting price of $195,000, with some versions heading up to $250,000. Mach7 Motorsports hopes to produce fifteen cars in the first year, twenty- five plus cars in the second year, and then consistently produce one hundred or more cars in each of the following years.

Already writing the NBA’s best story, Jeremy Lin has now scripted a thrilling finish. When he launched a 3-pointer in a tie game with a half-second left in Toronto, the result seemed obvious.

Lin-Sanity comes to Canada as New York Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin – who’s only been in the NBA for a matter of days – attends a press conference in Toronto ahead of an evening matchup against the Raptors.

You were overwhelmingly in favor of Ford being the engine provider for this year’s Grand-Am Rolex DP champion. It was the engine in the winning Michael Shank Racing entry at the Rolex 24 last month. You voted 74 percent to 26 percent that since Ford engines swept the podium at the 50th Rolex 24 at Daytona, Ford will hang on for the 2012 championship. Thanks for your vote!
