World Rally Championship driver Mads Ostberg, surprise winner at Rally Portugal Sunday, expressed what every privateer team is feeling in every corner of motor racing Monday. “It’s more and more difficult to find the budget to do the season,” the former Norwegian champion told the Tech House & Speed webcast as he started a few days of holiday after the first WRC victory of his career. Ostberg and his co-driver Jonas Andersson are part of the Adapta World Rally Team. They compete in a Ford Fiesta but they aren’t counted toward the Ford manufacturer’s points in the heated battle with Citroen in the WRC. The win Sunday in Portugal came at the expense of Citroen factory driver Mikko Hirvonen who was disqualified after discrepancies were found in Hirvonen’s dominant Citroen DS3 during a post rally inspection. The World Touring Car Championship was in Spain over the weekend. In Race 1 Yvan Muller cruised home comfortably, but his large gap was mainly due to the fight behind him between Gabriele Tarquini and Tom Coronel. The second race was one of the most exciting ever, with Alain Menu capable of keeping at bay a bunch of four BMW cars. With Pepe Oriola and Stefano D’Aste sharing victories in Spain, the Yokohama Trophy remains extremely close. Four drivers are covered by only six points. The championship will resume at Marrakech, Morocco, on April 15 for rounds 5 and 6. Here’s more:

Experimental racecar made its track debut last week at the 12 Hours of Sebring and has been turning out test laps at the Sebring Racetrack since. The track, which is renowned for its rough surface, still includes old sections of World War II-era landing fields that were made of concrete sections with large seams.
