Bill Wood’s – Some Things You Should Know: 11-06-06

Here are some Things You Should Know:

The 2011 Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally over the weekend was filled with drama. At the top, the win by four-time British Rally Champion David Higgins was by less than two seconds over 2010 North American rally champion Antoine L’Estage. Higgins made up nearly ten seconds on the last forest stage to get the win. Here’s a link to the story including the unfortunate DNF from defending 2WD RA champion Chris Duplessis who went out of the event with an eight minute lead two stages from the end in a Ford Fiesta R2 that was making it’s American debut.

And this is some video of the cars on the Randall 1 stage. There’s a lot more video on the Rally America website in the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally video gallery.

Long Beach Formula Drift winner Justin Pawlak won his second event in three over the weekend in Palm Beach, Florida. Pawlak beat teammate Vaughn Gittin in the Final Round to take the victory. Ironically, the Mustang that Pawlak was driving is the car Gittin used last year. In the bigger points issue: Daijiro Yoshihara lost to Kyle Mohan in the Top 32 finishing his weekend at 222 points in the championship running. Justin Pawlak had an easy battle against Luke Lonberger and after moving into the Top 16 and qualifying 3rd he now has 62 points from this PBIR weekend. Darren McNamara qualified second and moved into the Top 16 giving him 64 points already today. All of that math means Pawlak is not the FD points leader.

Here’s Pawlak vs. Darren McNamara in Palm Beach in a Final 4 drift battle.

Here’s the Final between Pawlak and Gittin.

And the Victory announcement.

In the Grand-Am weekend at Watkins Glen, Max Angelelli & Ricky Taylor won for the second time this week in Rolex DP while Andrew Davis & Leh Keen score their first win in the Brumos Porsche in Rolex GT. Here are the winner’s interviews.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is next weekend in France. We’ll be hearing a lot more about it as the week unfolds. These are pictures of one of the favorites, the new Audi R18TDI being tested at Paul Ricard.

Now, What Do You Think? this week: Is jumping a truck for distance motor sport or a dangerous stunt? Is it Sport? A Stunt? Or something too dangerous for sport? You can vote at GET BUSY!! Take a minute to vote. Learn something about yourself!

Three ongoing military campaigns that are costing the US a fortune give no comfort for the nearly 14 million unemployed Americans. With food stamps and a minimum wage the only hope for many, a career at McDonald’s has now become appealing. In April, the company launched its first ever national hiring day. Nearly one million Americans applied for a job at the fast food chain. Yet only six out of every 100 applicants were hired.
