Cole Bosanoz June Sprints summary

For Downers Grove, Illinois rookie SCCA driver Cole Bosanoz, the 54th annual Chicago Region June Sprints proved to be quite the successful outing. The June Classic would mark the first time Bosanoz would take to the track at the national level in front of many friends and family spread out across the legendary 4.0 mile circuit.

As the checkered flew for the 13-lap FE race Saturday June 20th Bosanoz crossed the line seventh in a heated battle for the fifth position in class. “We had a trouble free race, we were patient and that was my goal coming in,” said Bosanoz.

Bosanoz started the weekend off with the promoter test day June 18th. The One Formula team and engineer Dennis Eade from Competition Preparation (Comprep) worked hard on the setup of the No. 9 Temco/Global/AB Resources/Iowa Grain Van Diemen Enterprises machine. The already shortened schedule put a premium on track time, however Bosanoz and crew got right to business.

On Friday, Cole turned his fastest overall time out of two qualifying sessions ending the day sixth on the FE time charts. “I made a big mistake in qualifying by losing the draft on a flyer that would have put me in the top-4,” Bosanoz said.

Bosanoz would be bumped two positions in the Saturday morning qualifier placing him eighth for Saturday afternoon’s race. At the drop of the green, Bosanoz gained one spot on the run to turn one. While running seventh, he came under attack from Jay Motorsport’s Matt Schneider.

Bosanoz defended position, allowing former F500 national champ Brian Novak to take advantage. Novak and Schneider both were able to get by Bosanoz in the process, leaving Cole ninth. Bosanoz battled later with Schneider as he encountered lapped traffic.

Three laps from the finish Bosanoz and Schneider both were able to get by Novak. Fighting all the way into turn five, one lap later, Bosanoz could not get the job done on Schneider. As the white flag came out, Matt Schneider and Bosanoz met the ailing car of Paul Schneider. Into turn five, the three diced leaving Cole seventh with half a lap to go. (Matt) Schneider and Bosanoz then began to scrap with Cole’s One Formula team-mate Steve Stadel heading into turn twelve. As the three approached a waving yellow flag they tightened significantly.

With time running out, Bosanoz tried a last ditch effort on Schneider, unsuccessfully, in turn fourteen. Coming to the finish it was Stadel, Schneider, Bosanoz separated by less than two seconds.

“I was patient and let the race come to me,” Bosanoz said. “This one goes out to my sponsors who without them I wouldn’t have been here. I specifically have to thank Tom and Pam Keiser, Al Longtin and Jason Marion and Jack Murphy.”

The No. 9 FE car was exclusively supported at The June Spints by: Temco Inc., Global Emergency Products, AB Resources, The Iowa Grain Company, Keeley Construction, Team Janica, Sideline Sports Photography, Motorsport Collector and the Guys at turn 8.

Cole now looks to find more of the necessary funding to run the remainder of the year leading up to the National Championship RunOFFS. For Sponsorship Inquiries please contact Cole directly at or visit
