Capaldi Racing & SoutherLee Motor Racing Team Up For Miller KONI Challenge Debut

September 09, 2009

SoutherLee Motor Racing and Capaldi Racing, which have been stalwart competitors in the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge series, will join forces to make a debut race entry in the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge at Miller Motorsports Park. Steve Phillips, who currently sits seventh in the Mustang Challenge points standings, will pilot the No. 19 FR500C Mustang with co-driver Brian Smith for their debut in Koni Challenge GS class.

The Ford Mustang FR500C is the KONI Challenge-specification Mustang racer, with Phillips making the move up from driving his Mustang Challenge FR500S machine, the competition platform for every racer in the Mustang Challenge.

Phillips attended the 3 Day Ford High Performance Driving School at Miller Motorsports Park in 2007 and raced with the Skip Barber SE MX-5 series accumulating two class wins and multiple top five finishes.

In 2008 Phillips competed in five Mustang Challenge events in which he was awarded the first-ever Barbersol
