Burrows, Hopwood re-sign with Kinetic Motorsports

Kinetic Motorsports Retain Burrows and Hopwood for 2011 GRAND-AM Kia Effort

(11 December 2010)– After impressing in their first season driving for the Kinetic Motorsports factory Kia racing program in 2010, former GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Champions Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood will have the opportunity to build on their strong start as Kinetic has re-signed the duo to return to the team as co-drivers in the No. 12 Kia Forte Koup for the 2011 GRAND-AM season.

The Kia Forte Koup first raced in GRAND-AM at Daytona International Speedway last January as Burrows and Hopwood brought the marque a run to the checkered flag in the debut, kicking off an impressive streak of race finishes and points-earning results during the 2010 season.

The Kia support and a never-ending effort from the Kinetic staff, saw Burrows and Hopwood finish every race of the year and close the season out ninth in the championship after taking their season-best finish of fifth at Lime Rock Park. The sister No. 10 Kia Forte of Andy Lally and Nic Jonsson also netted a fifth-place finish at Virginia International Raceway.

“Adam and Trevor have been consummate professionals inside and out of the car and we’re extremely pleased to sign them again,” said Kinetic principal Russell Smith. “Kia has been an excellent partner and after a very solid first season of learning, we are all very much looking forward to continuing to improve in 2011. Having Adam and Trevor on board will be a significant boost for us next year.”

The two recently had the chance to get to know more members of the Kia family as they were the high-speed chauffeurs for some VIP Kia employees and dealers at the national dealer meeting in Las Vegas as the Kia Motorsport program continues to create excitement for the rapidly-growing brand.

“Driving for a team like Kinetic with a manufacturer involved is a tremendous opportunity for us and having a season with the team under our belts already will hopefully give us the chance to hit the ground running at Daytona,” said Hopwood. “We had very clear goals for the season last year and even though we just fell short of the podium at Trois-Rivieres, we nearly checked everything off our list that we set out to do. Now, we’ve got the chance to keep moving up with Kia and we can’t wait to get to Daytona and get the season started.”

The return to the Kinetic organization marks the first time the championship duo have returned to the same team since first moving to the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge ranks in 2007, when the two scored the championship in their rookie season and then followed that up with a run to second in the standings in 2008.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to build on what we started last year and to know that when we get to Daytona, we won’t be introducing ourselves to everyone on the team for the first time,” said Burrows. “I want to thank Russell (Smith) and Ed (Hall, team manager) for inviting us back to be part of the Kinetic family again. This has been a great home and we are very happy to come back and keep developing this Koup. To work with such an up and coming manufacturer like Kia that really has their arms around this program, is simply an amazing opportunity and we’re pushing hard to bring them new success next year.”

The 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season will open at Daytona International Speedway on January 28, 2011.
